Crude Processing Services for Hemp Farmers

Processing hemp biomass material into crude CBD oil provides hemp farms with an easy-to-work-with, liquid product that is THC controlled and ready for sales to thriving CBD product companies. At L7 Hemp, we utilize three different types of extraction methods: CO2, Ethanol, or Hydrocarbon extraction. Your exact extraction method will depend on several factors, including type of product needed, quality of the hemp, and concentration potential.

The government and consumer health/safety regulating agencies require CBD extraction to meet strict quality assurance standards. All L7 Hemp CBD crude oil is tested by 3rd party entities and measured for CBD concentration and overall CBD crude oil purity.

CO2 Extraction

CO2 extraction makes use of supercritical carbon dioxide which separates the valuable CBD oil from within the hemp plant material using a special process. A series of pressurized pumps and chambers are used to expose the CO2 both to low temperatures and high pressures. The result is a hemp oil extract containing high concentrations of CBD. Although the equipment is expensive, CO2 extraction is preferred for its safety, ability to specify concentration levels and because it produces high concentrations of up to 92% CBD oil.

Ethanol Extraction

Ethanol extraction utilizes ethanol to remove the CBD oil that resides in hemp plant material. This method is just as effective as hydrocarbon extraction while removing the risk of potential leftover chemical residuals. Unfortunately, there can be a downside. Natural solvents, such as ethanol, may also inadvertently extract and remove the plant chlorophyll along with the desired concentrated CBD oil. This often leaves a funny aftertaste that many find unpleasant. Because of this, ethanol extraction is best used in non-ingested or inhaled CBD products.

Hydrocarbon Extraction

Hydrocarbon extraction is similar to steam distillation, but this extraction method uses a solvent as opposed to water that the steam method requires. The solvent then acts as the means to separate the CBD oils away from the plant material. This CBD extraction type is less expensive and usually more efficient than steam extraction. However, the types of solvents commonly used in extraction using hydrocarbons can be toxic if the end evaporation step, that creates pure CBD oil, does not get all of the solvent residue released and eliminated safely into the air away from workers.
